The Trans Euro Trail is one of the most ambitious off-road motorcycle projects in Europe — a 100,000 km network of unpaved tracks connecting the continent from Norway's North Cape to the southern tip of Greece. It threads through forest roads, mountain passes, and remote valleys that most riders never reach.
The Kosovo section of the Trans Euro Trail is one of its most rewarding stretches. Cut off from mainstream European adventure touring for years, Kosovo's highlands have stayed almost entirely untouched. Riders who make it here find terrain and trail conditions that simply don't exist on better-known routes.
What Does the Kosovo TET Section Cover?
The Kosovo TET runs through two major mountain ranges. In the west, it passes through the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna) — a limestone plateau of river crossings, steep descents, and exposed ridgelines on the Kosovo-Albania border. In the south, the route crosses the Sharr Mountains (Sharri), with high-altitude tracks and views stretching into North Macedonia.
Between those ranges, the trail connects via Kosovo's interior highlands — gravel forest roads, double-track river valleys, and occasional tarmac links. The full Kosovo TET can be ridden as a 3–7 day itinerary depending on pace and how deep you want to go.
How Difficult Is It?
The Kosovo section is genuinely technical. River crossings are common, particularly in the Accursed Mountains, and trail conditions vary by season. A line that's clean in August may need a different approach in May. Rocky climbs and loose scree demand proper off-road technique and a capable machine.
This isn't a beginner route. Most riders who tackle the Kosovo TET have at least a few seasons of serious off-road riding behind them. The difficulty is also exactly what makes it worth doing — Kosovo rewards real skill in a way that smoother, more-travelled routes don't.
When Is the Best Time to Ride?
The season runs from late May through early October. July and August offer the most reliable weather and the best trail conditions across most of the route. June can still have snow on the higher Sharr passes. September is excellent — fewer riders, dry trails, cooler temperatures at altitude.
If you want to avoid other riders almost entirely, late September is the window: good weather, dry trails, and you'll rarely see another bike.
Riding With a Guide vs. Solo
The Kosovo TET can be ridden solo using GPX files from the Trans Euro Trail organisation. But there are good reasons to go with a local guide instead.
Qendrim Graiçevci, Tad Adventure's trail scout, is the official TET Linesman for the Kosovo section — the person responsible for scouting new lines, reporting route changes, and keeping the track data accurate. Riding with him means access to lines that haven't made it into the official GPX yet, real-time knowledge of which crossings to avoid after rain, and a support vehicle if anything breaks in a remote stretch.
Lil Berisha, Tad Adventure's lead guide, has been riding these mountains for over two decades. Between them, they know the Kosovo TET better than anyone on the ground.
Tad Adventure's Throttle Therapy and Elite Lines tours both include TET sections. If you want a fully custom TET itinerary built around your group's pace and skill level, the Tailor Made option lets you plan directly with the guides.
