Albania gives you two very different riding seasons in one country. In summer, the Accursed Mountains in the north offer high, rocky enduro terrain on the borders with Kosovo and Montenegro. When the high passes close, the south between Vlorë and Sarandë stays mild enough to ride, with mountain tracks above the sea. This guide comes from the Tad Adventure crew, who ride both from our base in Prishtina.
Is Albania good for off-road motorcycle riding?
Yes. Albania has a huge network of gravel roads, old mountain tracks and village connections, and most of the country is mountainous. You can ride a full day on dirt without repeating a section. Routes range from wide gravel roads any adventure bike can handle to steep, rocky climbs for experienced enduro riders, so it works for every level as long as the route is matched to the rider.
Northern Albania: the Accursed Mountains
The Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna), also called the Albanian Alps, run across northern Albania and into Kosovo and Montenegro. This is high-season terrain: limestone peaks, deep valleys, river crossings and long gravel climbs to mountain villages. It's the most dramatic riding in the country and the core of our summer trips.
Because the range crosses three borders, it's natural to combine them. Many of our riders start in Kosovo, ride into northern Albania and continue to Montenegro, using the official border crossings. Our 5-day Elite Lines expedition does exactly that.
Best time: the main season, roughly May to October. Snow can close the highest tracks outside those months.
Southern Albania: winter riding from Vlorë to Sarandë
When the north gets cold, we move south. The coast between Vlorë and Sarandë has a Mediterranean climate, with mild days in November and December when most of Europe's riding season is over. The mountains behind the coast give you gravel tracks, old shepherd roads and climbs with views over the Ionian Sea, then you drop down to coastal towns for the night.
It's a different ride from the north: less altitude, more flowing tracks, and the sea almost always in view. It's the way to keep riding when the high passes are closed.
Best time: November and December, and early in the season while the northern passes are still closed.
How long do you need?
Most Albania trips with us are 3 to 5 days. Three days gives you a solid loop in one region. Five days lets you go deeper or cross into Kosovo and Montenegro. Every Tailor Made trip is built per group, so the length, terrain and pace are yours to choose.
What bike do you need?
A lightweight enduro or mid-size adventure bike is ideal. Our fleet covers both: CFMOTO 250 Dual and 450MT, Yamaha Ténéré 700 and Kove 450 Rally, set up for off-road. You can also bring your own bike. No off-road gear? We rent the full kit: helmet, goggles, armour, gloves, trousers, knee protection and boots, plus a rain suit.
Do you need a guide?
You can ride Albania self-guided, but conditions change fast: tracks wash out after rain and phone signal disappears in the mountains. A local guide knows which lines are rideable that week, matches the route to your level, and has a support vehicle behind the group if anything breaks. On our tours, bike, fuel, accommodation, meals, guide and support vehicle are all included, with a maximum of six riders.

Where do tours start?
Our mountain tours start in Prishtina, Kosovo, a few hours' ride from northern Albania. For winter rides in the south, we agree the meeting point with your group.
